FIRE CASES
One of the programs of the St. Vincent de Paul that requires quick action is the help with fire cases. Once the Red Cross has verified a home fire and has assisted the client in locating a new residence, the client is then referred to St. Vincent de Paul.

Virginia Newton, with the Central Office takes the information and contacts one of our parish conferences for assistance. Normally this involves getting furniture, household items, and toys to the family. It is work that needs to be done within a week because these individuals are without the basics.

St. Anselm’s Parish Conference is one the conferences that work with fire cases. For years they have been willing and ready to offer all the help that is needed. We thank them for their service and spirit.

TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the oldest service organization west of the Mississippi. Through the 160 years of offering help to those who are struggling, the reputation of the Society’s works has inspired philanthropists and has been a contact source for companies wishing to volunteer time or contribute goods and monies.

During Christmas 2007 the Society received requests from companies and organizations to help families by providing food and gifts. One of the participating organizations was the accounting firm of Huber Ring Helm. At the time of its request to help, we had received notification of a fire case.

When Huber Ring Helm received the details they responded with enthusiasm. Within two weeks of the initial contact they had truly answered the call. Each family member was given a large box filled with surprises. All the family members received new clothes and personal care items. The children were given new toys.

The Society is grateful to Huber Ring Helm for seeking out those in need and caring enough to make a difference.
